Director of MAXIMUS Center for Health Literacy to Share Insights on Access to Health Care

Boyer, PhD, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MAXIMUS Federal Services and Chairman of the MAXIMUS Charitable Foundation, will be recognized with a Leadership Award by the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) during their 16th Annual Conference. The Company also announced that Penny Lane, MAXIMUS Vice President and Director of the Center for Health Literacy, will be a featured panelist at the conference.
The Hispanic Health Leadership Award is an annual recognition of individuals who have played significant leadership roles in affecting the health of Hispanics and underserved communities. Dr. Boyer is being recognized for his more than 40 years of service helping the government and private sector provide health care to underserved populations. He joined MAXIMUS in 1995 following a distinguished 24-year career with the US Navy Medical Department and the Department of Defense where he held numerous positions from clinical care to Director of Health Services Financing Policy under the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Dr. Boyer also played an integral role in developing and growing the MAXIMUS Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollment broker business. As Chairman of the Charitable Foundation, Dr. Boyer has led efforts of giving back to local communities – a major pillar of the Company’s mission of “Helping Government Serve the People.”

Ms. Lane will participate in the session “Foundation, Corporate and State Health Care Innovations to Improve Access, Decrease Costs” on Saturday, April 28th at 2:15pm. As part of a larger discussion about how to improve access to health care, she will offer insights into how states can implement proven methods for reaching the most vulnerable and underserved populations to help improve the health of their communities, with particular attention to State Health Insurance Exchanges. Ms. Lane is the Director of the MAXIMUS Center for Health Literacy, which develops easy-to-read print materials and websites for governments and public health services organizations so that they can communicate effectively with their consumers.
Ms. Lane will be joined on the panel by the moderator, George Flores, MD, MPH from the California Endowment, J. Emilio Carrillo, MD, MPH from the New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and Yasmine Winkler from UnitedHealthcare.
