MAXIMUS Foundation Chairman Dr. John F. Boyer to Receive 2013 Ripple of Hope Award from the RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MAXIMUS (NYSE: MMS), a leading provider of government services worldwide, announced today that Dr. John F. Boyer, Chairman of the MAXIMUS Foundation and Chairman of MAXIMUS Federal Services, will receive a 2013 Ripple of Hope Award from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, tonight, December 11, at the New York Hilton in Manhattan.

The Ripple of Hope Award recognizes leaders of the international business, entertainment and activist communities who demonstrate commitment to social change. Honorees reflect Kennedy’s passion for equality, justice and human rights, as well as his belief that everyone must strive to “make gentle the life of this world.” Past recipients include former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bono and George Clooney, among others.

Dr. Boyer is being honored for his work as a lifelong health care advocate and philanthropist. He joined MAXIMUS in 1995, following a 24-year career with the U.S. Department of Defense. He served as a Navy Nurse during the Vietnam War, in numerous clinical and administrative leadership positions, and later within the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs). There, as Director of Health Services Financing Policy, he successfully advocated for the adoption and expansion of several health care benefits for military families, and he worked with a team of military and public health leaders to develop several new health care programs, including the blueprint for the TRICARE program.

After joining MAXIMUS, Dr. Boyer worked with state governments to increase and facilitate the enrollment of disadvantaged, minority and low-income populations into public health insurance programs, such as Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. At the federal level, he oversaw the establishment of MAXIMUS Federal Services, which today provides many professional services, business process outsourcing and program management for federal agencies. Dr. Boyer also founded the MAXIMUS Center for Health Literacy, which develops easy-to-read print materials and easy-to-use websites that more effectively communicate complex health information to diverse populations served by governments and public health services organizations. Today, Dr. Boyer chairs the Board of the MAXIMUS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Company, and oversees all corporate giving programs.

Dr. Boyer’s outside volunteer work includes serving as Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board for Health eVillages, a program of Physicians Interactive and the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights that provides state-of-the-art mobile health technology to medical professionals in the most remote and challenging clinical environments around the world. Programs are currently in operation in Kenya, Haiti, China and the United States.

Dr. Boyer is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area, an organization that strives to improve the quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s disease, their care partners, and their families through support, education, exercise and public awareness programs.

Recently, he also participated in Pacific Partnership 2013 (PP13), an international medical, training and readiness mission in the South Pacific, led by the U.S. Navy and the governments of New Zealand and Australia. As a Project HOPE volunteer with PP13, Dr. Boyer served as the lead Operations Officer in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Kiribati and the Solomon Islands, where the team provided basic health services, medical education and training, preventative medicine support, and veterinary services.
