MAXIMUS Foundation Contributes More than $29,000 to Nepal Earthquake Relief

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MAXIMUS (NYSE: MMS), a leading provider of government services worldwide, announced today that the MAXIMUS Foundation has made a donation of more than $29,000 in employee contributions and corporate matching funds to Project HOPE for earthquake relief efforts in Nepal.

The MAXIMUS Foundation is the philanthropic arm of MAXIMUS, providing financial assistance to many of the same disadvantaged populations and local communities that MAXIMUS serves as an operator of health and human services programs. The MAXIMUS Foundation is completely funded by MAXIMUS and its employees, and provides grants to local community organizations, as well as disaster relief contributions.

Nepal was devastated by two earthquakes within the span of three weeks in April and May 2015. Donations provided by the MAXIMUS Foundation have enabled Project HOPE to mobilize staff members and medical volunteers to Nepal, as well as helping to cover the cost of shipping donated medicines and supplies.

“Thanks to the generosity of MAXIMUS and its employees, Project HOPE is providing relief to Nepal during this time of crisis,” said Laxmikant Palo, M.D., Regional Director, Southeast Asia, at Project HOPE. “With support from partners like MAXIMUS, we have sent multiple shipments of donated medicines and supplies valued at $6.7 million to help care for those injured in the disaster.”

More than 8,000 people were killed in the Nepal earthquakes and nearly 18,000 injured. Project HOPE will continue to coordinate the shipment of donated medicines and medical supplies requested by Nepal’s Ministry of Health in the short-term while the non-governmental organization develops sustainable solutions for the long-term.
