MAXIMUS Signs Five-Year Eligibility and Enrollment Modernization Contract with Colorado

- Model Serves as a Bridge to Health Care Reform Requirements -

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MAXIMUS (NYSE:MMS) announced today that it has signed a new contract with the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing to help Colorado modernize eligibility and enrollment for its Medical Assistance programs, including Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The five-year program is expected to launch in October 2010 and run through June 2015, at which time the state may exercise up to three one-year extensions. The Company estimates that if all services and extensions are exercised, the total value of the program is expected to be approximately $60 million.

Under the program, MAXIMUS will help Colorado modernize, standardize and simplify the enrollment and renewal process for its public medical assistance programs in an effort to streamline eligibility determination and accelerate enrollment and benefit distribution to consumers. The program includes a Denver-based customer service call center and eligibility and enrollment center to support multi-channel access that emphasizes a variety of self-service options to improve access to health care for Coloradans.

This new model for eligibility and enrollment modernization provides states with a bridge to achieve the requirements under Health Care Reform, which will open the door to insurance coverage for millions of Americans in 2014 through a combination of Medicaid expansion and the new health insurance exchanges. As a result, states are seeking ways to simplify and streamline the eligibility and enrollment process for subsidized populations in programs such as Medicaid and CHIP.

"We commend Colorado's vision and foresight in establishing this program to provide more cost-effective and high quality services," commented MAXIMUS CEO Richard Montoni. "This latest contract award underscores our proven performance and our ability to provide streamlined and simplified services to encourage consumer participation. This project further expands our market share and positions us at the forefront of program modernization, which many states are now considering as part of Health Care Reform. Additionally, new eligibility and enrollment platforms of this type represent a strong reference design model to meet many core needs of the future state health insurance exchanges."

MAXIMUS is a leading provider of administrative support for publicly funded health insurance programs, serving nearly 18 million Medicaid managed care and CHIP clients. With an established presence in Colorado, MAXIMUS currently provides administrative services for the state's Medicaid managed care program.
