MAXIMUS Recognized as a Regional Employer of the Year by Texas Workforce Solutions – Vocational Rehabilitation Services for Hiring Individuals with Disabilities

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MAXIMUS (NYSE: MMS), a leading provider of government services worldwide, announced today that is has been recognized as a regional 2016 Employer of the Year by the Texas Workforce Solutions – Vocational Rehabilitation Services (TWS-VRS) division of the Texas Workforce Commission for efforts to hire and retain individuals with disabilities.

Nominees for the award were submitted by TWS-VRS regional staff and reviewed and approved by executive management, with the final selection made by a special committee. MAXIMUS was selected under the former Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative (DARS) Vocational Rehabilitation program’s recognition that honors employers and other community organizations that actively hire and retain individuals with disabilities and who promoted inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the workplace and in their communities. Through legislative action last year, vocational rehabilitation and other programs from DARS were transferred to the Texas Workforce Commission, effective September 1, 2016.

Local DARS offices, now known as Texas Workforce Solutions – Vocational Rehabilitation Services, previously identified employers during the summer of 2016 and recognized them in October during National Disability Employment Awareness Month. TWC and DARS both have had a long history of connecting people with jobs. TWC has a history of providing integrated workforce services that help Texans seeking employment, while DARS’ history included connecting job seekers with disabilities to employers seeking qualified employees.

The awarded MAXIMUS project, based in Irving, Texas, supports a large government health care program. In keeping with the Company’s commitment to maintaining a diverse workforce, MAXIMUS worked with TWS-VRS from the start of this program to recruit and train individuals with disabilities who could help support the citizens this program serves. These recruitment efforts have proven to be a success, as the relationship remains a strong source of talent and many of the staff recruited from TWS-VRS remain with the project.

“I am very proud of our team for being recognized for this prestigious award,” said Thomas Romeo, President of MAXIMUS Federal. “The passion of our staff in helping government agencies support people with disabilities is one of the hallmarks of MAXIMUS.”

The award was presented to MAXIMUS in a ceremony on October 27, 2016 that included representatives from the Company and staff from TWS-VRS.
